I jumped the gun—or maybe I was late on the draw—in saying I was on the verge of Bird 100 on my life list. Yesterday I spotted some Chimney Swifts chattily and battily swooping over the dog run and thought they were Bird 100. Nope, already on the list from way back in my youth. This afternoon I remembered, slapping forehead, that I hadn’t included the birds we saw in Belize and Guatemala or the birds I recall from my years spent in Southern California! I’ll work that out in due time, but for now Bird 100 is the Scarlet Tanager, which I spotted in a Tulip Tree in the central battlefield across the street. Duh!
