I’m not kidding when I say fall migration is coming. Another bird absent from my summer feeder returned today: This Downy Woodpecker had his fill of sunflower hearts after patiently waiting for a female Cardinal (below) to take off. Birds of Bur-Mil Park

Needing to escape some loud maintenance being done on our building this morning (the young Happy, you might recall, is terrified of loud things), Happy and I spent a couple early-for-us hours walking the Lake Brandt shoreline at Bur-Mil Park.
