Chicks Grow Up So Fast; and a Return to Firefox 2

July 5th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Chicken chicks

Look at those meaty legs! Can’t you just smell the chicken tikka masala? Mmmmm! These birds are growing so fast it’s almost frightening. It might be the steady diet of Japanese beetles along with the starter/grower feed. Whatever it is, their chickenness attracted a large red-shouldered hawk to the yard this morning. It landed with a thud on a nearby feeder, causing the chickens to call out in alarm and then become eerily silent while they waited for the hawk to leave. Jays and other birds loudly escorted the hawk from the yard. Good thing the coop is covered!

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve reverted to Firefox 2 after using FF3 since its recent release. Bookmarking in FF3 on my MacBook became impossible. I’d bookmark a page, but it would either save just a random element of the page, or overwrite itself with some random prior page I had visited, or not save at all, or do something else weird and unpredictable and equally useless. I’m a big-time bookmarker, so FF3 has to get its act together on this before I’ll go back to it. Plus, my favorite weather widget isn’t compatible yet and I missed it. So much for my early adopter status.

Thanks for the heads up about FF 3. I hadn’t updated to it yet, and I won’t now for a while, at least until they get the bugs out. I’d have assumed they’d copy all your current bookmarks over…do they not?

I love watching birds mob other birds. It’s like: “Hey KIDS! I know we usually fight over that holly bush, but we’ve gotta work together on this one, man!”

FF3 does copy the old bookmarks, but it’s hit or miss trying to bookmark new pages in FF3, and more “miss” the longer I used it. I’ve scoured the Mozilla forums for an answer, but the FF fanboys are too busy trashing people who are having this issue to actually offer any help.

Mobbing is awesome. It’s like when someone in middle school yells “Rumble!” on the playground during recess. (Do middle schoolers still get recess?)

I meant to add that I’m trying out Opera for the first time. The game widgets are highly addictive!
