Hanging Rock State Park

Josh had a rare day off this week—his first after 16 consecutive days of working. We took Happy and Tito to Hanging Rock State Park, which is a short drive from our place, yet more in the foothills of the Appalachians and therefore a little more mountainy. We hiked to a couple of waterfalls, as well as to the top of Hanging Rock itself. Highlights were a nice view of a singing pine warbler, a giant toad, a tiny northern watersnake that I first thought was a copperhead (better safe than bitten), a red-eyed vireo eating a winged insect, and Tito clambering over massive trail steps.

Happy’s looking extra “special” here. Her tongue is way too long for her head

Tito walked with me and was a real trooper, wrassling himself up and down rock steps that were higher than he is tall. Tito loves people, and doesn’t suffer at all from Happy’s brand of shyness. Whenever we met other hikers, Tito’s stumpy tail wagged and he gave them the “pet me” look, which usually garnered a pat on the head or two. The next day, he pretty much napped hard till sundown.
I’ll post more pics from the excursion this weekend. For now, though, I’m getting offline after a long day of work.

Sounds like a very nice day for the two of you and the dogs.

Oh Iris, I’m so far behind. I love your blog. But it’s 10:40 – WAY past bedtime. I’ll be back.

Oh Mary, don’t worry, I have so many things to post and am far behind, too! Nice meadowlark shots are just itching to get off my camera and onto the blog, but it’s late!
