Mystery Flower *SOLVED* Poppy Anemone

May 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Poppy Anemone

Garden experts, I need your help. This flower came up in a couple spots in the garden, and I don’t know what it is. Last fall, Josh brought home a couple packages of assorted bulbs, which I promptly and haphazardly stuck in the flowerbed. I’m usually good about keeping plant tags, but this one seems to have gone missing and I haven’t got a clue what kind of flower this is. The bloom has a clematis look (but it isn’t a clematis) and the foliage is kind of geranium-like (but it surely is not a geranium). Not scented, either. Very cool-looking, but I need a name, people! Any ideas?

UPDATE: Stephanie used her very powerful detective skills and discovered that this is a Poppy Anemone, aka Grecian Windflower, aka Anemone coronaria. See, this is why I blog—to tap into the collective genius of the people. Well done!

Gorgeous flower. My guess is the Poppy Anemone (Anemone coronaria). Definitely not something I recognized, but I love the i.d. game and found something similar in my handy dandy garden book! Let me know what you think.

Nice work! I believe you are correct! Check out this page on Dave’s Garden:

Also known as the Grecian windflower, and it’s a member of the ranunculus family. Thanks a million!
