I don’t know much about growing roses, but how hard can it be, really? Sure, you can make it all complicated with special chemicals and potions and mysterious pruning methods and tools. Or you can go to Walmart and buy a bunch of “body bag” bare root varieties, stick ‘em in the ground, and hope for the best. Guess which method I chose? Nothing’s dead yet, knock on wood, and today this climbing pinata rose is the first of the body baggers to bloom. Isn’t this one gorgeous? I love gaudy orange flowers—they remind me of SoCal and Baja and fish tacos and stuff. Also, the knockouts are reblooming like gangbusters, but they’re a cakewalk in any condition. See today’s knockouts after the jump.

The pink knockout roses are blooming again, and the rest are about to burst back into bloom. All the knockouts took a blooming hiatus after soaking their feet in our formerly swampy yard, then sitting in pots, then being replanted. Knockouts cannot be killed easily, considering the extreme abuse these youngsters have endured. That’s good news, because I’m not one to baby the plants. It’s pure Darwinian rule out there, kiddies!
both are beautiful – I love that orange color!
Isn’t it great? I was saying today that I’d make a horrible Victorian considering how much I love the orange flowers.
