Blissed-out Crow
April 9th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Ah, warm sunshine, a pan of seeds … life can be so good. That’s what this American crow seems to be thinking as it stands all blissed-out and glassy-eyed after stuffing itself silly with sunflower hearts.
It spent a few minutes eyeballing the pan, not totally trusting that it wasn’t booby-trapped, or perhaps not believing that scoring a bellyful of seeds could possibly be so easy. Once it felt comfortable, though, the crow dove in like a pro, eating up seeds with abandon and, interestingly, not telling its nearby cohorts about the stash. Wise crow.

Here’s a closeup of Mr. Bliss (or maybe Ms., I can’t tell with crows). The corvids are my absolute favorite of all the birds. So smart, so amusing to watch interacting with each other and their surroundings. And so glossy black and chic yet a little dangerous-seeming. The best of birds in my book.

I love to watch them strut across the yard, they seem like they own the place.

I like them as well. I keep trying to convince the neighbors of how interesting they are!

Hi Iris!
I enjoy the crows, too. They’re very savvy, brave, and ingenius, actually. This is the first photo of an American Crow that shows the eye! Great job!
