Goldfinch Meets Redbud

April 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

American Goldfinch

Josh brought home more trees yesterday. His new job in the plant business is doing wonders for our yard. On Tuesday, he toted home a yoshino cherry in full bloom and this eastern redbud. We planted the redbud in the front-yard space formerly occupied by my feeder, with the goal of hanging a feeder in the tree when it gets bigger. (We can be surprisingly patient people.) No sooner did we get the tree in the ground than the goldfinches and chickadees started perching in it. The feeder’s off to the right of the tree now, just at the edge of our woods, making the redbud a convenient stopping point before moving on to the chow.

I love planting a new tree and watching the birds perch on it. My neighbors planted five new ones last summer, so the bird habitat in the neighborhood will be even nicer.
