Dog Rental: The Answer to Our Problems?
March 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments
Gothamist has a post about FlexPetz, a joint in NYC that rents out dogs (yes, real live dogs). The monthly fee for this Netflix-style pet rental? $279.95!!! (And that only gets you a dog for a single day; additional days are $45.) Tito is clearly pretty easygoing about who he hangs out with, having chosen us, after all. I’m thinking maybe he could help to pay my killer self-employment taxes. Would that be so wrong?
I’m kidding, I’m kidding. We’re keeping him, although he has got to learn some manners. Today we worked on sit/stay/come, which he appeared to know when we first met but has since conveniently forgotten. He also has to learn to calm down when we enter the house, and to not jump all over Happy or bother Lucy the cat. And no barking. We do not bark in this house. After a half-hour of sit/stay/come training (with treats), Tito seemed a bit more in my control instead of the other way around. I want Tito to be a pleasant, manned-up dog and not a little yappy dog, and I believe he has it in him, but it’s going to take a little time and training. Any advice about training small dogs is appreciated. This guy’s a bit of a handful!

You know that, and I know that, but Tito is having a hard time knowing that! Today he discovered digging up the raised beds in the garden. Argh!
