After a few rainy days, the birds are back in force at the bath. This female cardinal splashed out nearly all the water during her vigorous ablutions. But it’s very true that for birds, the sight and sound of splashing water is like candy to a bird blogger. This poor girl just couldn’t get any alone time.

The goldfinches kept coming over to see if they could take a turn in the tub. By the look on Madame Cardinal’s face, it’s clear that the finch is gonna have to wait.

Next up is this field sparrow (my favorite sparrow). It was really persistent—drinking from the bath, trying a quick hop into it (rebuffed by the bather), walking the perimeter.

Finally the sparrow hopped down to the cinder block and pretended not to be interested in the bath. The cardinal resumed her splashing, dousing the sparrow while it picked around for clover seeds. Look at all the dripping water along the rim of the bath. Get that bird a towel!
