I received a great shot today from our friend Dennis of a nest chockablock full of young Barn Swallows. Today was a whirlwind so I didn’t get a chance to scan it yet, but check for it tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m excited to show you this male Widow Skimmer dragonfly. (You might have seen the female Widow Skimmer I posted a few days ago.) The males develop those white markings on the wings, making it easy to tell them from the ladies. Both genders have thin black lines on the outer ends of their wings.
I found this fella zipping around the tall grass at the little mini farm we looked at yesterday—and put an offer on today. (I’d use an exclamation point, but I’m trying to stay calm.) We went back today to have another look at it. The power lines were dotted with Eastern Bluebirds at regular intervals all the way there. The Indigo Bunting greeted us—unseen as usual—with loud singing as Josh and I clambered out of the car. We walked to the lot line and learned that 6.5 acres is bigger than we thought—and holds a whole bunch of trees. And birds, surely. Now if you’ll please excuse me while I have a little anxiety attack…
