Bird in the park: Great Horned Owlet

I keep saying, “Follow the crows.” It’s such good advice, seriously! Today I followed the crows and found this:

That fuzzy chunk of cuteness is a young Great Horned Owl, as evidenced by the downy feathers and the hint of ear tufts just growing out. Immature Great Horned Owls fledge from the nest when they’re still downy like this one. I especially like the fluffy stuff coming up from its sides. Here’s a good look at its foot and razor-sharp talons while it stretches its legs:
