Female American GoldfinchIt seems like just yesterday that I said it must be my turn to host the American Goldfinches at my platform feeder. Apparently it’s true, and here’s the proof. This female goldfinch dropped in a few minutes ago, kindly posing for a photo before grabbing a few seeds. It’s a rainy day today, and I shot this through the window, which explains the ethereal (e.g., blurry and washed out) quality of the pic.

Male American GoldfinchHere’s the mate of my visitor. She flew out to meet him after chowing down in the feeder. See the emerging leaves? It’s getting really green outside. This time last year we were looking for a place to live in our new town. It wasn’t this green when we visited in April. Is this an early spring, or was last year a late spring?
